Stage Design for The New Standards
I have done a lot of work with the New Standards, designed record covers, posters, yeti characters, but it’s only been the last few years that I have had the opportunity to design much bigger things for their stage performances at the State Theater. Every year the New Standards come up with an imaginative and out there theme. The first year I did stage design for them, they asked my husband Cooper Sheehan to build giant swizzle sticks. Cooper (a talented carpenter/welder) built these enormous swizzle sticks which I got the opportunity to paint.
The following year, John and Chan asked us to make a large Santa Sleigh, I designed the sleigh, cooper constructed it and then I got to finish it off with with a paint job and festive decorations. Holiday show of 2022 I designed a large hanging backdrop arch, complete with evergreens and mushrooms along with an absurdly sized hookah. Cooper had them laser cut and then meticulously put the pieces together. The design and construction made for a beautiful and festive show. Holiday Show 2025 has been my favorite set so far. I designed large scale flowers that look as though they grow up from the ground. Cooper cut my flower shapes from foam core, pieced them together like an accordian and I spent weeks painting them. I love how graphic and large they turned out. I also got to create a Marquee , large yellow sun and fun painted props. It was a real treat to see it in action!
